The kinetics of the abstraction of adsorbed D-Atoms on Ag(100) surfaces with gaseous H atoms — •Dionyssios Kolovos-Vellianitis and Jürgen Küppers — University of Bayreuth, Experimentalphysik III, Universitätsstrasse 30, 95447, Bayreuth, Germany

The interaction of hydrogen (H) and deuterium (D) atoms with clean and deuterium covered Ag(100) surfaces has been studied with TPD and direct product detection techniques. H and D atoms, formed in a heated tube source were exposed on this surface at 80 K, resulting in a desorption peak near 150 K at low coverages. Further exposure leads to a second TPD feature around 120 K which does not saturate and is attributed to sub surface adsorption. Abstraction of adsorbed D with H atoms at 80 K leads mainly to HD and much less D2 gas phase products, denotig that it procceds via a hot-atom rather than an Eley-Rideal mechanism. The kinetics of the abstraction is almost identical to that observed on Cu(100) surfaces indicating that reconstruction is affecting the reaction process.
