Low and high temperature phases of halogens on Pt(110) — •Alexander Menzel, Clemens Deisl, and Erminald Bertel — Phys. Chemie, Univ. Innsbruck, A-6020 Innsbruck

We present an extension of earlier investigations of clean Pt(110) and halogen adsorption on Pt(110) [1,2]. Halogens on Pt(110) lead to low dimensional behaviour of this surface system which thus shows pronounced many body effects. One focus of the current investigation are the phase transitions between low temperature phases (e.g. Br (3x1), c(2x2), and Cl p(2x1)) and the high temperature (1x1) phase, recently interpreted as a dimensional crossover [2]. Temperature dependent photoemission spectra and diffraction data of the phases investigated are discussed in comparison to other highly correlated systems (e.g. high-Tc cuprates [3]).
