Coherent control of macroscopic quantum states in superconducting circuits — •Frank K. Wilhelm — Sektion Physik, Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München, Theresienstr. 37, 80333 München
Superconducting circuits are a promising candidate for the realization of coherent control, and ultimately quantum information processing, in scalable solid-state systems. I am going to review possible architectures and their experimental status. I will then focus on the physics of flux qubits in more detail and show, how their dynamics, decoherence and the properties of the measurement process can be engineered. I will discuss the quality of single- and two-qubit gates in hostile environments for different implementations. Finally, I will provide a quantitative discussion based on an objective measure, whether experiments demonstrating superpositions of collective flux states have solved Schrödinger’s cat paradox.
