Adhesion of metal films on polymer substrates determined by a hydrogen loading method — •Eugen Nikitin, Reiner Kirchheim, and Astrid Pundt — Institut für Materialphüsik, Tammannstr. 1, 37077 Göttingen

Expansion of Nb-films on polymer substrates during hydrogen loading leads to local delamination of the films with the shape of buckles. This happens above a critical hydrogen concentration ccrit which can be obtained both in optical and substrate curvature measurements. The critical concentration is directly linked to the adhesion energy by assuming pure elastic stress release within the delamination buckle [1,2]. In this work we will present optical and stress measurements on the critical concentrations ccrit of films with different film thickness. Also, the influence of the substrate thickness will be presented. The technique enables a quantitative determination of the adhesion energy between the polymer and a metal film. [1] A. Pundt, P.
