Electron-electron collisions in semiclassical cluster dynamics — •Jörg Köhn, Thomas Fennel, Karl-Heinz Meiwes-Broer, and Ronald Redmer — Institut für Physik, Universität Rostock, 18051 Rostock

The dynamics of the Couloumb explosion of metal clusters irradiated by intense laser pulses is studied. A well proven tool for the investigation of the cluster ionization dynamics is the semiclassical theory based on the Vlasov equation. An efficient numerical implementation of the method is able to cope with systems up to some hundred atoms in a fully three-dimensional manner [1]. This Thomas-Fermi-Vlasov (TFV) molecular dynamics treats the ions as classical particles and the electrons are represented by a swarm of pseudoparticles.

However, the Vlasov method covers the long range coulomb interaction between electrons by a mean field. We extend this method by including a Boltzmann-like electron-electron collision term, leading to the Vlasov-Ühling-Uhlenbeck (VUU) approach. First results for simple metal clusters are presented and compared with TFV-MD calculations.
