Integrated absorption measurements higher accuracy: a method to assess and eliminate Instrumental function errors. — •Gerardo José Padilla Víquez and Karl Jousten — PTB - Institut Berlin, Abbe Straße 2-12, 10587 Berlin
We present a new method to identify and eliminate the presence of spectroscopic instrumental function error on integrated absorption (line intensity) measurements. The need of such measurements with high accuracy demands to take care of the effect of the instrumental function upon the line intensity, which is often neglected in the literature. The self-deconvolution methods found on the literature keep the integrated absorption of the lines constant and are often focused on the task of increasing resolution of the spectra to distinguish partially overlapped lines. We have developed a new method to deconvolve absorption spectra without making any assumption on the instrumental function. The method allowed us to identify spectra affected by the instrumental function (in our case, the emission form function of our laser) in such a way that the measured integrated absorption had a systematic error, making it smaller than the real value. The method permits us to correct the mentioned error and to find the real line intensity based on the measurements of two absorption spectra, under the restriction that one of them must be taken under Doppler conditions.
