One of the key tasks of heavy flavour physics analyses at CDF is the identification of b-mesons, their decay products and their flavour in a busy hadronic environment. New Next to Leading Order Monte Carlo events show that this task is more complex than usually thought. The reason is that higher order processes with a large cross section lead to a substantial weakening of the correlation between the b quarks in the same event.
Several jet related observables can help in discriminating b-jets from the background. In particular variables based on the probability of the single jet particles to be b decay products play an important role. The combination of these variables with neural newtork techniques improves b jet identification efficiency and purity. This talk will show how the use of a neural network can help to correctly identify b jets and demonstrate the impact on b-flavour tagging.
