We report on a Raman scattering investigations of the nanoscale magnetic cluster compounds Mo_yM_x, with M = transition metal ion (Cr and V). Phonon and magnetic scattering are observed and correlated with structural and electronic properties of the systems. Magnetic frustration is evident as a broadening of a shoulder with a high energy cut-off comparable to the magnetic exchange energy. Multiphonon scattering is observed up to third order.
