Existing theories for twophase flow in porous media at the scale of centimeters to hectometers show a number of deficiencies, particularly concerning hysteresis, upscaling and residual saturations. An alternative constitutive theory [1] has proposed to treat the percolating and the non-percolating fluid parts seperately. We have now closed the set of nonlinear coupled partial differential equations of this theory selfconsistently. The set of equations is then solved for the initial/boundary value problem of raising a closed column by an adaptive moving grid algorithm [2]. Its solutions show that this new constitutive theory [1] is capable of predicting some hysteretic phenomena in twophase flow in porous media.
