The double-pulse non-normal incidence pumping geometry for transient collisionally excited soft X-ray lasers was studied more intensively with a 10 Hz Ti:sapphire laser system. The two pumping pulses are produced in the front-end of the CPA pump laser by a Mach-Zehnder like setup. After amplification and compression the pulses are focused collinearly onto the target under grazing incidence, optimized for efficient energy deposition and traveling wave excitation for the second pulse. An optimal regime of the soft x-ray laser operation is obtained by the variation of the pulse energy ratio, the pulse duration and the time delay of the two pulses. Intense lasing is observed routinely at 18.9 nm with up to 0.7 micro joule output energy with a total pump laser energy of 0.7 joule at a stable operation at 10 Hz with source size of 4 micron x 12 micron and a divergence of 3 mrad x 10 mrad. The performance of stable and reliable operation proves the suitability of the double-pulse non-normal incidence pumping geometry for table-top high repetition soft x-ray lasers on the way to various applications.
