Dielectric Barrier Discharge(DBD) on human skin is characterized using optical emission spectroscopy, current-voltage measurements,microphotography and plasma-chemical modeling.Human body can serve as the opposite electrode.Influence of opposite electrode material and geometry on plasma conditions is studied.Electron distribution function and electron density are determined by comparing calculated and measured nitrogen spectra.Intensity distribution in nitrogen emission spectra is calculated and compared with measured. Gas temperature in plasma channels is determined using rotational distribution in neutral nitrogen emission spectra.The measured gas temperature and plasma parameters depend on the material of the opposite electrode (human skin, aluminum, glass,water,salt solution) and interelectrode distance.Production of photons, nitrogen and oxygen atoms, nitric oxides, nitrogen and oxygen metastables in plasma channels and in afterglow phase are calculated using determined plasma conditions. The results of different opposite electrodes are used to optimize the discharge for therapeutic application in dermatology.
