Electron and ion acceleration in laser-illuminated droplets — •Tatiana Liseykina1,2 and Dieter Bauer11Max-Planck-Institut für Kernphysik, Heidelberg, Germany — 2Institute of Computational Technologies SD RAS, Novosibirsk, Russia

The results of electromagnetic 3D relativistic PIC simulations of the interaction of high intensity femtosecond laser pulses with He droplets are presented. Droplets combine laser absorption features of clusters with those known from laser-solid interaction. Like clusters, droplets display finite-size and geometry effects. However, droplets sustain higher peak field strengths without rapid disintegration. Moreover, as the droplet diameter approaches or even exceeds the skin depth, pulse propagation effects can no longer be neglected. As a consequence new effects are observed, such as simultaneous s and p polarization-like interaction at the droplet surface and energetic and bunched electron jets of peculiar angular distributions.
