Time resolved observation of the optical signal from pulsed DBD's in a Ne-Xe-HCL gas mixtures — •Andrei Pipa, René Bussiahn, and Eckhard Kindel — INP Greifswald, Felix-Hausdorff-Str. 2, 17489 Greifswald

Excimer lamps are promising sources of UV pulse radiation, especially when coherent light is not required. In this work a dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) operated in burst mode has been investigated. This operation mode is characterized by several submicrosecond high voltage pulses of square shape which are applied with 100 Hz repetition rate. Discharges in neon with small admixtures of xenon and hydrochloric acid were used as a source of UV radiation at 308 nm, emitted by the excimer molecule XeCl. The time evolution of Ne, Xe and XeCl radiation intensities for pressures in the range of 100-700 mbar and voltages in the order of 3-7 kV is presented with nanosecond resolution. A variation of the spectral band shape of XeCl emission in the beginning of the pulse is detected. Efficiency of the burst mode in dependence on operation condition is discussed.
