Electrochemical investigation of nanoscaled LiCoO2 from different synthesis processes — •Carsten Jaehne, Christine Täschner, Andreia Ioana Popa, Rüdiger Klingeler, and Bernd Büchner — Leibniz Institute for Solid State and Materials Research Dresden

Self-assembled nanoscaled cathode materials promise increased rate performance in Li-ion batteries. We report on the conventional and the microwave assisted hydrothermal synthesis of LiCoO2 nanostructures. We discuss the effect of both synthesis processes as well as of the variation of the process temperatures between 120C and 200C and of different precursors on the morphology and electrochemical properties of the resulting material. Our electron microscopy, x-ray diffraction and magnetisation studies provide information about the phase, the morphology and the valency of the Co-ions. Cyclic Voltammetry and Galvanostatic Cycling techniques have been applied to evaluate the electrochemical performance.
