Simulation of a Railgun Experiment using Finite Element Methods — •Stephan Hundertmark — French-German Research Institute of Saint-Louis, Saint Louis, France

Today progress in railgun research is usually achieved experimentally with support from simulations. It is of great interest to set up dynamic simulations that allow to asses time dependent information about the parameters involved in the electromagnetic acceleration of masses. In this investigation a dynamic 3-d finite element simulation was implemented using the program "Comsol". The results from this simulation are compared to a railgun experiment.
