Doping and Phase Separation in Mixtures of Differently Substituted Phthalocyanines Measured in-situ During Film Growth — •Lena Cornelius, Max Beu, Christopher Keil, and Derck Schlettwein — Justus-Liebig-Universität Gießen, Institut für Angewandte Physik, Heinrich-Buff-Ring 16, D-35392 Gießen

Mixed films of the unsubstituted phthalocyaninato copper (H16PcCu) and its perfluorinated derivative (F16PcCu) with different molecular mixtures were prepared by co-evaporation and were analyzed in-situ by conduction measurements. High admixtures of H16PcCu in F16PcCu films disturbed the charge transport, presumably caused by phase separation and the presence of poorly conducting grains of H16PcCu in the conductive F16PcCu films. Very low admixtures increased the conductivity, indicating a successful doping of F16PcCu by H16PcCu. For pure thin films of F16PcCu well-defined crystal structures (βbilayer-structure and β-structure) were determined in the literature and correlated to optical absorption bands. Optical transmission spectroscopy performed for the present films revealed the presence of these structures as expected for the pure films of F16PcCu and also for low admixtures of H16PcCu but a disturbance of the F16PcCu solid state structure was seen for increased admixtures of H16PcCu. The proportions of the βbilayer-structure and the β-structure of F16PcCu were decreased indicating disturbance of the F16PcCu film growth by a large admixture of H16PcCu.
