Sensitive Beam Current Measurement for FAIR — •Marcus Schwickert1, Febin Kurian1, Hansjörg Reeg1, Paul Seidel2, Ralf Neubert2, René Geithner3, and Wolfgang Vodel31GSI Helmholtzzentrum für Schwerionenforschung, Darmstadt, Germany — 2Friedrich-Schiller-Universität Jena, Germany — 3Helmholtz-Institut Jena, Germany

Presently FAIR, the Facility for Antiproton and Ion Research, entered the final planning phase at GSI. The new accelerator facility requires precise devices for beam current measurements due to the large dynamics in beam intensities for the various synchrotrons, transport lines and storage rings. We report on the actual developments of beam diagnostic devices for the measurement of beam intensities ranging from 5× 1011 uranium ions down to the detection of less than 104 antiprotons. This contribution gives an overview of the planned instruments with a focus on non-intercepting beam current transformers, and summarizes the on-going development of a cryogenic current comparator.
