The strength of a nonlinear optical response of natural materials is highly sensitive to their crystallographical symmetry. Because of the high interest in metamaterials and their potential in photonics, we want to investigate the impact of rotational symmetry on the nonlinear optical signal strength of plasmonic structures. By fabricating gold nanoantennas with four different rotational symmetries but the same plasmon resonance frequency, we are able to compare the symmerty induced change in the nonlinear optical response.
