Microcalorimetric study of the hydrogen-to-water oxidation on solid-state Pt/TiO2/Ti emf cells — •Ömer Cakabay, Mhamed El Achhab, and Klaus Schierbaum — Department of Materials Science, Institute for Experimental Condensed Matter Physics, Heinrich-Heine-University Düsseldorf

We study the hydrogen-to-water oxidation on Pt/TiO2/Ti layer structures in which the oxide is grown by a high-voltage electrochemical anodization. By means of microcalorimetry, we determine various kinetic parameters including the film and pore diffusion rates, the turn-over numbers, the activation energies and the reaction orders of hydrogen-to-water oxidation on platinum coated anodized titanium foils. By identifying these parameters, the experimental determination of the mass transport limitations as well as the temperature dependence of the activity of the catalyst are achieved.
