Optimization of particle flow algorithms in ATLASIan C Brock, •Pienpen Seema, and Thomas Velz — University of Bonn

Particle flow in ATLAS is being studied in order to improve jet reconstruction and the measurement of missing transverse momentum. The package called eflowRec is used in the reconstruction of particle flow objects. It is based on the use of information from the calorimeters, tracking and particle identification. Using particle flow, improvements in jet reconstruction with no pile-up contribution have been shown. In order to be useful, better performance of object reconstruction using particle flow at high pile-up contributions should also be seen. On the other hand eflowRec algorithms are known to be CPU intensive. To speed up the eflowRec algorithms, different object extrapolation conditions have to be optimized.

In this contribution, studies of objects reconstructed with the eflowRec algorithms in ATLAS will be presented. Simulated 8 TeV samples for different pile-up conditions have been used for these studies.
