Very high energy neutrinos in the Earth's atmosphere became a topic of broader interest since the first evidence for astrophysical neutrinos has been established by the Icecube Observatory. Is is known that in the range between hundreds of GeV and several hundreds of TeV the neutrino-flux is dominated by conventional atmospheric leptons. These particles are produced in extensive air showers (particle cascades) through interactions of cosmic-rays with air nuclei. Creation and decay of long-lived mesons, such as charged pions, charged and neutral kaons drive the dynamics of the cascade which can be theoretically described by Monte Carlo or cascade equation calculations. In this talk I will present a method for solving the air-shower equations in algebraic (matrix) form. This method allows to explicitly account for the contribution from very short-lived intermediate particles and resonances, called the prompt component. Numerical results will be discussed and compared to a full Monte Carlo calculation.
