Measurement of differential cross sections in Higgs to diphoton decay channel with the ATLAS detector using 8 TeV pp data — •Marco Filipuzzi — DESY/UHH, Hamburg

In summer 2012, the ATLAS and CMS collaborations announced the discovery of a new particle with a mass of around 126 GeV. Since then, more pp collision data has been collected, allowing for refined studies of the properties of the new particle and comparing to those expected for a SM Higgs boson. The high signal selection efficiency and the good mass resolution make the diphoton decay channel an ideal decay channel for property measurements. Here, we present the first differential cross section measurements, based on an accumulated integrated luminosity of 20.3 fb−1 at √s = 8 TeV. Differential cross sections have been measured for inclusive variables based on the diphoton system, and for jet-based quantities. In the future, these measurements will provide a better insight on the Higgs boson couplings and kinematics. Differential jet-based variables will also be crucial to understand QCD initial-state radiation from gluons, for which Higgs boson production is a unique laboratory.
