Optimization studies for the analysis of the H → τlepτhad decay channel with the ATLAS detectorJana Kraus, Jürgen Kroseberg, •Jessica Liebal, Thomas Schwindt, and Norbert Wermes — Physikalisches Institut Universität Bonn

The ATLAS collaboration recently reported an evidence for the Higgs boson decay into a pair of τ leptons consistent with the Standard Model expectation. The local p0 value for the observed excess at
mH=125 GeV corresponds to 4.1 standard deviations. The analysis was based on a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 20.3 fb−1 collected in 2012 at a center of mass energy of √s=8 TeV.
This talk focuses on the re-investigation of the decay process H → τlepτhad in which one tau decays leptonically the other one hadronically. Options are discussed to further improve the resulting significance towards the final publication for run I and to make a statement about the compatibility with a 125 GeV Higgs boson. The presented search is based on a combination of data samples collected in 2011 and 2012 with ATLAS at √s=7 TeV and √s=8 TeV corresponding to an overall integrated luminosity of 24.9 fb−1.
