Study of the electron neutrino reconstruction in PINGU — •Thomas Ehrhardt, Marcel Usner, and Marek Kowalski — Physikalisches Institut, Universität Bonn

As an envisaged low-energy extension of the IceCube neutrino detector, the Precision IceCube Next Generation Upgrade (PINGU) will detect atmospheric neutrinos with an energy threshold of a few GeV. Efficient detection and excellent reconstruction of electron neutrinos constitute important keystones for its primary physics goal - determining the neutrino mass hierarchy. The likelihood-based sampling algorithm MultiNest significantly improves both energy and directional resolutions in the relevant energy regime. It currently exhibits the best performance with respect to standard IceCube tools. In this talk I will investigate the performance of MultiNest with regard to its capability of reconstructing electron neutrino events in PINGU and highlight potential further optimisation.
