Low and High Mass Drell-Yan events in the CMS experiment — •Samantha Dooling and Hannes Jung — DESY Hamburg

At the LHC the Drell-Yan process describes the annihilation of a quark of one colliding proton with an anti-quark form the other proton, creating a pair of leptons through the exchange of a virtual photon or vector boson. I investigate the transverse momentum distribution in different invariant mass windows of the dimuon system. Approaching the low and very high invariant masses various aspects affect the dimuon p_T distribution. At small p_T the non-perturbative dynamics dominate and are described by resummation methods, whereas at the intermediate and large p_T the perturbative contributions describe the p_T spectrum. In this talk I will present the analysis results of 2011 data taking and discuss the methods to determine the backgrounds, pile-up estimation and jet balancing.
