Low and High Mass Drell-Yan events in the CMS experiment — •Samantha Dooling and Hannes Jung — DESY Hamburg

At the LHC the Drell-Yan process describes the annihilation of a quark of one colliding proton with an anti-quark form the other proton, creating a pair of leptons through the exchange of a virtual photon or vector boson. I investigate the transverse momentum distribution in different invariant mass windows of the dimuon system. Approaching the low and very high invariant masses various aspects affect the dimuon pT distribution. At small pT the non-perturbative dynamics dominate and are described by resummation methods, whereas at the intermediate and large pT the perturbative contributions describe the pT spectrum. In this talk I will present the analysis results of 2011 data taking and discuss the methods to determine the backgrounds, pile-up estimation and jet balancing.
