High energy neutrinos from AGN — •Björn Eichmann — Ruhr-Universität Bochum, Germany

The recent observation of high energy neutrino signals by IceCube gives us the unprecedented opportunity of a comprehensive understanding of the physics of cosmic accelerators. In this talk, the importance of neutrino astrophysics especially in the context of active galactic nuclei (AGN) is emphasized.

First, the non-thermal emission of a flaring AGN is considered in order to solve the open question of a leptonic or a hadronic origin of these flares. For this purpose, a semi-analytical model is presented that describes the photon and neutrino emission in the jets of AGN referring to their leptonic and hadronic origin, respectively. The temporal development of the emergent photon and neutrino intensities of AGN flares in hadronic and leptonic interaction scenarios is calculated, given useful predictions of flare durations and time lags between photons of different wavelength and high energy neutrinos.

Secondly, the diffusive neutrino flux from AGN is considered. Using the observed neutrino signature, the parameters of a supposed AGN source are constrained.
