ATLAS silicon strip detector upgrade: towards the construction of a first PetaletDario Ariza1, •Elin Bergeaas Kuutmann2, Ingo Bloch1, Conrad Friedrich2, Ingrid-Maria Gregor1, Marc Hauser3, Karl Jakobs3, Susanne Kuehn3, Heiko Lacker2, Kambiz Mahboubi3, Riccardo Mori3, Ulrich Parzefall3, Luise Poley1,2, Volker Prahl1, Laura Rehnisch2, and Dennis Sperlich21DESY, Germany — 2Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, Germany — 3Albert-Ludwigs Universität Freiburg, Germany

After the planned upgrade in 2022, the LHC will run with an enhanced luminosity of 5· 1034 cm−2s−1. For ATLAS to handle the increased track density and radiation, a new Inner Detector must be developed and constructed. The upgraded silicon strip end-cap will consist of wedge-shaped parts, Petals. As a first step in the R&D, smaller, trapezoidal parts of the Petal, Petalets, are going to be constructed. The talk covers the steps already undertaken to build a first Petalet. First test results, such as thermal measurements, and the support structure will be discussed as well.
