QCD Background Estimation in ATLAS SUSY search in 0-Lepton channel. — •Manfredi Ronzani — Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg, Germany

Many extensions of the Standard Model (SM) include heavy coloured particles, such as the squarks and gluinos of supersymmetric (SUSY) theories, which could be accessible at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) and detected by ATLAS. The 0-Lepton SUSY search looks in final states containing only jets and large missing transverse momentum coming from heavy SUSY particles decaying into jets and stable lightest neutralinos (χ10 ). This channel suffers from larger QCD background contamination than other channels e.g. with leptons. This requires a careful treatment of such a background source which is accomplished by two independent fully data-driven methods. The first method (jet-smearing) is used to provide transfer functions between QCD control regions and associated signal regions. The second method (TrkMet) exploits the characteristics of the ET,trackmiss variable (defined as the sum of the trasverse momenta of the tracks measured in the tracking system) and sets up an ABCD grid in order to provide the QCD estimation in signal regions.
