The Tunka Radio Extension: status and results of the first year of operation — •Dmitriy Kostunin for the Tunka-Rex collaboration — Institut für Kernphysik, Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT)

Tunka-Rex is the radio extension of the Tunka-133 air-Cherenkov array (Siberia, close to southern tip of Lake Baikal) commissioned in 2012. The radio array consists of 25 antenna stations connected to the data acquisition of Tunka-133. The array registers air showers induced by cosmic rays from initial particles with energies of 1016–1018 eV. Tunka-Rex is externally triggered by Tunka-133 and registers the radio emission from the same air showers. This combination provides the possibility of hybrid measurements of cosmic rays and cross-calibration between the air-Cherenkov and radio techniques. The main goal of Tunka-Rex is to determine the precision of the reconstruction of air-shower parameters using the radio detection technique. We present the current status of Tunka-Rex, results of the first year of operation, including the reconstruction of air shower parameters, and performance benchmarks based on simulations.
