Development of a L1 pileup Jet Pt correction for the ATLAS DetectorVolker Büscher, Esteban Fullana Torregrosa, Sabrina Groh, Lucia Masetti, Carsten Meyer, and •Pedro Urrejola — JGU, Mainz, Deutschland.

After the long shutdown 1 (LS1) of the LHC, the ATLAS experiment will detect particles arising from the proton-proton collisions at 13 TeV center of mass energy with an increased luminosity ∼ 3.9 times larger than the peak luminosity reached during Run 1 in 2012 of 7.7 × 1033 cm−2 s−1 with a center of mass energy of 8 TeV.

This luminosity and energy increase lead to a jet multiplicity increase and deteriorate the jet energy resolution due to pileup energy deposition in the calorimeter cells. L1 trigger rates will increase, hence the trigger rejection power of the L1 trigger must be increased. Therefore the hardware needs to be improved, in particular new electronics such as the Level-1 Topological Processor (L1Topo) module will be installed. This will allow new algorithms to correct for additional pileup at L1.

This presentation reports on the development of an algorithm capable of doing a L1 event by event Jet energy pileup correction.
