Performance and monitoring of the FastTracKer in ATLAS — •Maddalena Giulini, Tatsiana Klimkovich, and André Schöning — Physikalisches Institut der Universität Heidelberg

The FastTracKer (FTK) in ATLAS is a dedicated hardware processor designed to perform a fast track reconstruction for the first phase of the LHC luminosity upgrade in 2015.

The FTK will be integrated in the trigger chain. It will perform fast and precise on-line track reconstruction in the inner detector silicon layers, providing track information over the full detector area at the beginning of the second trigger level.

At high luminosity this information is important for triggering events containing leptons or b-quark jets, in order to be sensitive to channels like Hbb, H→ ττ or to New Physics processes.

The FTK tracks could also be used to improve object reconstruction like particle flow jet and Missing Transverse Energy (MET) at the trigger level, reducing the contribution due to pileup.
The performance using FTK tracks for MET reconstruction with the Particle Flow algorithm is presented.
