Coupling hyper-sound generated by molecular transducers to plasmonic nanorods — •Elena Pavlenko and Matias Bragheer — Institut für Physik und Astronomie Karl-Liebknecht-Strasse 24-25 14476 Potsdam, Germany

Gold nanoparticles and particularly nanorods have a wide spectrum of applications in medicine and have been investigated in Chemistry and Physics. The absorption peaks for such gold nanoparticles lie in the spectrum of visible light and appear to be very sensitive to the surrounding media. In this work gold nanorods have been deposited onto a PAH/PAzo polymer multilayer structure and have been investigated via ultrafast pump probe spectroscopy. Azobenzene is a photosensitive molecule that switches its isomerization state when it is illuminated by 400 nm light. This wavelength was chosen for the pump beam and white light was used for the probe beam. The structure of the sample was obtained via the spin-coating method. Pumping the polymer layer with 400 nm light leads to the creation of a sound wave. This sound wave travels to the gold nanorods' layer and changes their surrounding media, which influences the gold nanorods' absorption peaks. In this work the interaction between the sound wave and gold nanorods is described and analyzed.
