We demonstrated feasibility of magnetoelectric domain selection by the intense electromagnetic radiation of the FELBE Free Electron Laser. Our experiments showed that among the two magnetic domains, one can be selected in a LiCoPO4 single crystal cooled from the paramagnetic to the antiferromagnetic phase while it was irradiated by the FELBE. The FELBE was the most efficient when 1) its frequency was tuned close to the ME mode at 1.35 THz, 2) the cooling rate was low, and 3) the FEL power was the maximum. In this poster, I discuss possible mechanisms causing domain imbalance.
