Multispin interactions have long been appreciated as a possible microscopic driver for the formation of spin liquids or other forms of unconventional magnetic ordering, e.g. in the proximity of the Mott transition. Here we discuss the role of such multispin interactions in the Kondo material PrTi2Al20, which exhibits a rich phase phase diagram including intertwined quadrupolar orders, superconductivity and non-Fermi-liquid behavior. Our focus is on magnetic-field induced phase transitions in the quadrupolar ordered state, which have recently been experimentally probed by the Nakatsuji group. Via extensive Monte Carlo simulations we demonstrate that three-spin interactions between the local moments play an important role to explain the observed field dependence of the quadrupolar regime, in the context of a relatively simple O(2) spin model.
