We present the first application of metallic magnetic calorimeter detectors for high resolution x-ray spectroscopy at the electron cooler of CRYRING@ESR, the low energy storage ring of GSI-Darmstadt. Within the experiment, x-ray emission associated with radiative recombination cooler electrons and stored U91+ ions was studied. For this purpose, two maXs detectors were positioned under observation angles of 0 and 180 with respect to the ion beam axis. This report will focus on preliminary results of the data analysis, namely the first observation of the splitting of the Kα 2 line into its fine-structure for a high-Z He-like system.

This research has been conducted in the framework of the SPARC collaboration, experiment E138 of FAIR Phase-0 supported by GSI. We acknowledge substantial support by ErUM-FSP APPA (BMBF n 05P19SJFAA).
