Study of the magnetic topology of Wendelstein 7-X MHD equilibria in high beta scenarios with HINT — •V. Sanfratello, J. Geiger, A. Knieps, Y. Liang, and Y. Suzuki for the w7-x team collaboration — FZ Jülich
Recent high-performance experiments in Wendelstein 7-X have achieved on-axis plasma betas beyond 5 %. In order to evaluate the effects of the pressure-gradient-driven plasma currents, since confinement and exhaust in stellarator concepts are expected to be sensitive to them, we analyse their im- pact on the magnetic-field structure in such high-beta regimes. To this end, we perform simulations using HINT to compute 3D magnetohydrodynamic equilibria, including self-consistent pressure and magnetic-field profiles, for cases of βaxis up to 11 %. This contribution presents the resulting changes of the 3D magnetic topology and shows first trends in their impact on the heat-load distribution on the plasma-facing components.
