An effective coupling parameter for Yukawa systems and its use as a non-invasive measurement method — •Torben Ott and Michael Bonitz — Christian-Albrechts-Universität Kiel, Institut für Theoretische Physik und Astrophysik

The Yukawa model is often employed to describe strongly coupled systems such as dusty plasmas. Two parameters define the system: i) The coupling parameter Γ, and ii) the screening parameter κ. These two dimensionless parameters fully govern the structural and dynamical properties of the system which can be obtained, for example, through molecular dynamics simulations. We show how it is possible to define an effective coupling parameter Γ(Γ, κ) for Yukawa systems based on structural properties. Using additional dynamical data contained in the velocity autocorrelation function, we then derive a reference data method (RDM) which enables the reconstruction of the governing parameters (Γ and κ) from trajectory snapshots. This RDM can serve as a non-invasive way of determining the plasma conditions, complementary to currently used methods, and achieves an accuracy of about 10%.
