Spatially and spectrally resolved optical emission spectroscopy on a cold, intermittent, negative DC Corona Discharge — •Torsten Gerling, René Bussiahn, Tomas Hoder, Eckhard Kindel, Klaus-Dieter Weltmann, and Ronny Brandenburg — Leibniz-Institut für Plasmaforschung und Technologie (INP Greifswald), 17489 Greifswald, Germany

A self pulsing, negative DC corona discharge with a typical plasma diameter of 30 µ m was investigated. The spatially resolved optical emission in the range from 300 nm to 1000 nm was of special interest. The device was operated with argon (200 - 500 sccm) and works at atmospheric pressure in ambient air. The general, spatially resolved emission characteristics of all observed spectral lines were measured by employing a compact spectrometer and a linear stage. In case of radiating species, emitting with lower intensity, an ICCD equipped spectrograph was used to enhance the sensitivity. Simple assumptions on the plasma chemistry are derived from the experimental results.
