A study of PINGU's sensitivity to neutrino mass hierarchy — •Andreas Groß for the IceCube collaboration — Technische Universität München

PINGU (Precision IceCube Next Generation Upgrade) is a envisioned infill to the IceCube detector at the geographic South Pole with the ultimate goal to determine the neutrino mass hierarchy. Up to 40 additional strings could be deployed in the central part of IceCube in order to lower the neutrino detection energy threshold below 5 GeV. We present PINGU's sensitivity to determine the hierarchy calculated by the use of a representative ('Asimov') dataset. The Bjorken-y , calculated from both the reconstructed muon and cascade energy of muon neutrino events, is used to enhance the hierarchy signature.
