Experiencing Core Concepts and Skills at the SE2A Research Club changING — •Dina Al-Kharabsheh, Anne Geese, and Rainer Müller — Institut für Fachdidaktik der Naturwissenschaften, Abteilung Physik und Physikdidaktik, TU Braunschweig

Projects initiated in the changING research club setting include mainly engineering content and courses (primarily in the context of Aviation science). These have raised questions about the scope and sequence of teaching engineering-related concepts and skills to high school students. The research club teaches core concepts of "engineering" as well as relevant physics principles based on the up-to-date learning theories. Some projects in the research club will be introduced. The main research that follows is going to be defining the difficulties encountered by students in learning a particular concept or skill, the development of students' understanding and cognitive capabilities during projects as well as the experiences and teaching interventions that facilitate an increasingly sophisticated understanding of each concept or skill. A longitudinal assessment of engineering self-efficacy will help in mapping out any possible differences between different genders. The results will help identify common principles for future projects.
